Congress recently passed the DTV Delay Act which extends the deadline for TV stations to complete transition from analog to digital broadcasting from February 17, 2009 to June 12, 2009. Congress did not require stations to continue broadcasting in analog after February 17th, and TV stations may complete their transition and stop broadcasting in analog before June 12th.
If you have an analog TV that gets free over-the-air reception through an outdoor or indoor "rabbit ear" antenna, instead of through a cable source, that TV will need to be replaced or converted in order to receive a digital television signal. Televisions connected to cable or satellite source will not be affected by the switch.
In order to ease the transition to digital television for analog customers, consumers may apply for and receive up to two coupons for a digital television converter box per household. Additional coupons are currently being printed and distributed and do expire 90 days after mailing to the requestor. You may request additional coupons only if your current coupons have expired.
According to data from the National Telecommunications Information Administration 594,563 of the 1,297,795 coupons requested by Missourians have been redeemed (as of January 13, 2009).
The transition to digital television (DTV) will improve your television viewing experience. It will also free up space on the broadcast spectrum for public safety and emergency response applications and to expand broadband internet access.
